Allstate Canada 2021 Community Hero Award National Recipient

Announcement for Allstate 2021 Community Hero Award

Allstate Insurance Company of Canada has a corporate social responsibility mission of fostering an environment of inclusion, involvement and empowerment for those who experience barriers to participation – whether it be within their community, career or personal life. The company’s employees are proud to honour agents who embody this mission.

For the past seven years, Allstate Canada has identified individuals who go beyond their normal work responsibilities to support their local community as Community Heroes. We recognize five regional recipients and one national recipient with our Community Hero Award, and we’re excited to announce that this year’s national recipient is St. Catharines & Niagara Agencies Manager, Melissa Marquis.

Melissa is deeply involved as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Niagara and Pathstone Mental Health. She is a strong leader for her local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, serving as a Board Member and Chair of their Governance Committee.

“What an absolute honour to be recognized as this year’s national Community Hero Award recipient,” said Melissa. “I’ve enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity and Pathstone Mental Health for a number of years, and it’s been a passion of mine to give back. I never thought I could win an award for volunteers, something that comes second nature to me.”

In addition to supporting local causes, Melissa is always eager to participate in many of the national charitable giving initiatives run by Allstate Canada, and enthusiastically encourages her team, as well as others in her region, to get involved.

“I consider it my duty as a global citizen to encourage as many people as I can to get involved,” continued Melissa. “I’m fortunate enough to have two wonderful teams from both agencies who share my love for giving back.”

During the pandemic, Melissa pivoted to virtual volunteering by attending Zoom Board meetings and helped setup the Home for Dinner fundraiser that involved several local businesses.

In the future Melissa hopes to continue supporting Habitat for Humanity and Pathstone Mental Health, as well as look for more opportunities to volunteer with organizations in the Niagara and St Catherines area.
