While Coronavirus (COVID-19) dominates our news headlines with new information and updates everyday, many are advised to stay home and practice physical distancing and help flatten the curve. While it is encouraged to practice proper personal hygiene, the Allstate Canada’s GOOD HANDS Advice Team have developed simple steps you can take to ensure that your home and auto are also protected.

According to a recent report from CTV Toronto, the novel coronavirus can survive up to 72 hours, depending on what kind of surface it is sitting on.

It is important that during this time, both your home and car are stocked with essential items. While many non-essential stores will be closed at this time, many pharmacies and grocery stores remain open. Therefore it is beneficial to review the list below to ensure that you are fully stocked, while at the same time being mindful not to hoard items.


  • Water
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Hygiene supplies including,
    • Disinfection wipes
    • Hand soap
    • Lysol
    • Bleach
    • Hand sanitizer
  • Special need items (prescription medication, infant formula, extra keys for car and home)
  • First aid kit
  • Games/activities to keep you and your family occupied
